In our homeschool this week… TJ and I had a fairly good, relaxing week. We still have a bit left to finish up for the day - chemistry and part of a chapter in Story of the World. Here's our list of finished work:
Math - 4 lessons in RightStart, a few pages of Challenging Word Problems, some online work with A+Tutor
Language Arts - 1 1/2 steps in spelling, 3 grammar lessons, and a paper on Henry Hudson
Languages - a few lessons in French and another lesson in Latin
History - Story of the World book 3, one chapter, a narration, and mapwork
Science - we got everything ready to start The Elements by Ellen McHenry. TJ spent some time flipping through the student book. She's really looking forward to using it but we still have a few experiments to finish up with the Magic School Bus kit before we move on.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… we have a busy weekend coming up with some relatives visiting from Montreal this weekend and a Superbowl party to attend on Sunday.
My favorite thing this week was… using IEW Teaching Writing Structure & Style. We watched a bit of the student intensive this week before beginning our weekly writing routine. TJ is doing well with key-word outlines and writing from an outline. We'll move on to Unit 3 in a few weeks, probably after our week off.
I’m reading… I just finished The Portrait of a Lady this week. I'm reading I am Half-Sick of Shadows right now. TJ is working through On the Banks of Plum Creek. She should finish today or Monday. She also read a book about Leonardo da Vinci, Three Samurai Cats, and is reading the third How to Train Your Dragon book and more Rainbow Magic Fairy books.
I’m cooking… a pork loin roast in the crockpot today with baked potatoes and roasted green beans and mushrooms. Warm, yummy food for a cold day.
I’m grateful for…a husband that doesn't mind doing the grocery shopping!
