In our homeschool this week… It was our first week back after Christmas break so TJ and I eased into things with half our subjects. I'm glad I didn't schedule a full week because it was a very nice, relaxing way to ease into the rest of our school year.
We did our normal morning routine - Bible reading, devotions, math drill, and recitation. She worked through 4 lessons in math with her father and we also did three grammar lessons (she wanted to!), two chapters of Story of the World, and she's working on her Chemistry experiment as I type (density).
We also watched the student portion of IEW and she learned how to do key word outlines and wrote her first draft of The Tortoise and the Hare. She really enjoyed Mr. Pudewa's teaching style.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… TJ celebrated her 9th birthday this week and we threw a party for her and a few friends. I let her choose the theme and she decided on a Super Mario Brothers party. A very wonderful friend made a large Mario Brothers mural - the question mark boxes are even "punchable" with hidden surprises inside.
I’m reading… The Portrait of a Lady and I have a few books on my night stand for fun reading. TJ started On the Banks of Plum Creek this week and also read a few books in the You Wouldn't Want to... series. I'm reading aloud The Wheel on the School.
I'm watching... Lark Rise to Candleford! Season 4 just came from the library. TJ and I are watching Little House on the Prairie - we're part way through season 1 right now.

It was our first week back, too!
What a neat birthday party theme - the mural is such a sweet blessing from your friend. The Wheel on the School is one of my favorite children's books, a great one to share in a read aloud.
I love the Mario theme. It sounds like a good week back.
OOOOHHHHH thank you for the recommendation of Lark Rise to Candleford. I am a BBC junkie .. Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife .. so I am thrilled to have another one to watch! It streams free on Idaho Public Television's website (and I'm in Missouri). I loved that in the first scene, Laura's father is Bates from Downton Abbey!!!
Adorable Mario theme!
I haven't started on many of the BBC shows, but now I just might.
I'm following you now here and on facebook now! From the crew.
That Mario brothers theme looks like sooo much fun and how very creative! I really like your header too, esp the jumping rope one. Too cute!
It's so great that dad helps with the schooling.
Looks like a great idea for a birthday party!
